| Dr Bill Robinson has researched the seismic isolation of buildings and bridges since 1970. His understanding of materials science enabled him to recognise that damping devices could be constructed from lead and lead-rubber composites. He was able to invent, design and develop devices for specific seismic purposes. Now, throughout the world, but particularly in the USA, Japan, Italy and NZ, over $1 billion worth of his inventions have been installed in buildings and bridges. Local NZ applications include Parliament Building, General Assembly Library , Wellington Central Police Station, Te Papa, together with >50 bridges. As well as protecting human life, the development has resulted in a NZ based manufacturing industry and a relationship with a Japanese manufacturing company. | ||
