Atiu Harbour Development, Engineering Feasibility Study (PDF 1 page summary)

The Cook Islands Office of the Minister for Island Administration and the Atiu Island Council identified improved harbour facilities as one of the key elements to future development on the island of Atiu. ACCG undertook a comprehensive feasibility study for the proposed harbour development. The objectives of the harbour were to reduce the cost and risk of importing and exporting goods (and thus encourage development on the island) to allow the establishment of long-line tuna fishing and game fishing industries, to allow for visiting yachts and to encourage a cluster of supporting industries.

Manihiki Reconstruction Project (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: November 1997
On 1 November 1997, Tropical Cyclone Martin struck Manihiki. Enormous waves, reported to be higher than coconut trees, washed over this low-lying atoll. Nineteen people lost their lives. Extensive damage occurred to 95% of the existing infrastructure, with the costs of the damaged estimated to be in excess of $9.6M. Public and privately owned buildings, the power system and the telecommunication facilities were destroyed or damaged beyond repair; the airport runway and wharves were inundated, causing extensive damaged.

Niue Airport Runway Extension (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: June 1995
In a joint venture between the New Zealand and Niue Governments , AC Consulting Group was appointed as the Management Services Consultants for the extension of Hanan Airport. ACCG began planning work for the extension in 1995. The airport is Niue’s main link to the outside world, and the lengthening of the runway was essential to enable Niue to handle the 737 and 767 aircraft that are now in common use in the region. Previously only partially loaded 737 aircraft could use the airport, which made in uneconomic for airlines as a destination.

Reconstruction of Secondary Schools in Western Samoa (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: November 1991
AC Consulting Group was appointed as the Management Services Consultant (MSC) for the reconstruction of secondary schools in Western Samoa following Cyclone Val at the end of 1991. The project involved defining the site specific requirements for each of the 19 schools, preparation of the Project Implementation Document and project contract documentation, managing the construction tender process and providing full time site supervision for 12 months. We also provided full project management including certifying work and payment.

Clyde Power Station, Lake Shore Stabilisation Works (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: January 1989
The creation of the 60 m high Clyde Dam involved inundating the toes of 14 major landslides in the Cromwell Gorge section of the new reservoir. One landslide daylighted above the dam abutment and another overlooked the town of Cromwell further upstream. Concerns were raised about the possibility of sudden or significant movements leading to damage to the town or the surrounding communities.

Haapai Outer Islands Electrification Project (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: January 2002
The Project introduced electrical power, for the first time, to four of the main islands in the Ha�apai Group; �Uiha, Ha�ano, Ha�afeva and Nomuka. AC Consulting was involved in both the institutional and engineering aspects of the project. The project involved setting up the structure to own, manage, maintain and operate the electricity network, managed by the community through Electricity Co-operatives. This entailed setting up the management structure; providing codes and bylaws; organising the elections of the management committee; providing technical, financial and management training; and educating the community on safe use of electricity and how to budget for its use.

International Flood Protection Response - Charleville, Queensland, Australia (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: January 2008
The Emergency Management Academy of New Zealand (EMANZ) is the official training provider for flood response and control products supplied by HydroResponse. HydroResponse is a supplier of advanced flood protection technology in New Zealand and is the agent for flood barrier systems including the GeoDesign barriers which are used extensively throughout the world to protect communities and infrastructure from flooding. When the Queensland community of Charleville was threatened by flood waters, a call was made for international assistance by Emergency Management Queensland to HydroResponse in New Zealand.

Feasibility Study for the Retrofitting of Selected Residential Buildings (PDF 1 page summary)
Project start date: February 2005
The 1999 earthquake centred near Izmit caused fatalities from building collapses in the Municipality of Bakirköy, Istanbul and there is a high probability this area will be severely shaken within the next 25 years. The project examined the feasibility of strengthening 369 apartment buildings in this municipality. The occupants volunteered to have their buildings subjected to the material, geotechnical and analytical tests needed to estimate their fragility. Beca International Consultants led this joint-venture with Turkish consulting engineer Prota. Other New Zealand firms involved in the project were David Hopkins Consulting, GNS Science and Holmes Consulting Group.
